1

Yanacocha Trek 2 Day (The Heart Lake)

The tour begins when we leave Vertical Sky Suites or Stardome Peru, at 7 in the morning after breakfast; At 7:30 am, we will have a meet with our travel team, such as: horsemen, cooks, kitchen assistants and your professional guide who will accompany us throughout the trek.

The first section of the trek we will ride in a horse for half hour on a flat road; Then we will ascend to the mountain where there are still some native forests, where local residents call them “Unkas”, in this area we will appreciate native birds of the area.

For local residents these mountains are a sacred place; After continuing our path for 1 hour and a half we arrive at the “Silla K’asa” pass where we will make our first stop at an altitude of 4100 masl (13 451 fasl); From here we can appreciate spectacular views of the sacred valley of the Incas; we will be able to take many photos and record videos; From here we will appreciate the Inca site of Moray and the salt mines of Maras; In addition to seeing the “Pitusiray” Mountain, the “Wakay Willka” Mountain, the “Verónica” snow-capped mountain, here we will receive a talk about why this area is considered the Sacred Valley of the Incas since the time of the Incas.

We make a traditional ceremony in this sacred place; and then enjoy some snacks; Here our guide will prepare an ancestral Inca ceremony and Andean style meditation for about 10 or 15 minutes

We will continue our path and arrive at a very sacred place called “Zorrayoc”, Local people (direct descendants of the Incas) have been living here since the time of the Incas, who abandoned these buildings and decide to live in the cities; We will take a visit through this construction receiving a talk from our professional guide.

From here we will appreciate the snow-capped “Wakay Willky”, we will also appreciate the waterfall with an altitude of 300 m; In this area we will enjoy a nutritious organic lunch prepared in the Andean style by our hiking chef; During the entire walk we will be the only ones, since this area is exclusive for our clients; so we will have a hike in full contact with nature, totally away from the hustle and bustle of the city and other walkers.

At the end of lunch, we will take a break and stock up on water for the tour; From here we will make an ascent towards the ”Yanacocha” Lake (The Heart Lake), for this section of the walk if you wish you can do it on horseback for 40 minutes to 1 hour; Upon arrival we will be able to appreciate the view of Yanacocha (Laguna Corazón), the waters of this lagoon are very sacred, since they were carried through channels that are still preserved today, to the main temples and ceremonial centers of Ollantaytambo; such as “The Temple of the Sun”, “The Temple of the Moon”; in addition to other ceremonial sources where it was believed that these waters had a purification purpose.

If you wish, you can enter the lake and perform a andean purification ceremony; after 1 hour of this experience; We will take a walk to reach a pass that is located at 4350 meters above sea level where we will find a turquoise lagoon with a true hue where the Huallatas and mountain geese rest; Considered sacred birds by the Incas, after this Beautiful View we will make a descent until we reach “Wincococha”, since it has the shape of a “Batan”, a rock that is used to grind food that has been used since the time of the Incas.

In this area our horsemen will wait for us with the tents made with all our equipment, we will camp next to the sacred lagoon and to spend the night we will drink a traditional “Te Macho” which is a typical mountain drink.

To better enjoy the night experience, our guides will begin a dialogue about Inca astronomy and the Andean worldview; and then enjoy dinner and then rest after this great day.

Our second day begins at 5:00 am; with a coca tea with lemon; We will have breakfast and then do an Andean ceremony since the next path we travel is called “Qhapaq ñan” an ancient path built by the Incas during the next 3 to 4 hours, until we reach the indigenous town of “T’astayoc”

“T’astayoc” is a community that has remained intact for thousands of years with its customs and traditions, they even preserve their traditional clothing; Where, in addition, only the Quechua language is spoken, it is like going back in time about 1000 to 2000 years.

The great experience in this community is to live, share and experience the company of local families, here our passengers can leave some gifts such a fruits, and have the opportunity to share with local people of the mountains.

After the tour, we will enjoy  the lunch, a traditional Pachamanca, a traditional meal from the Peruvian Andes that we will share with the local people of the Andes; At the end we take the private transportation; that will take us to the city of Cusco or Ollantaytambo and then have the possibility of take the to Machu Picchu.
