Cachicata Trek Inti Punku 1 Day
Since the arrival of the Spaniards to the land of the Incas, the question of how the native peoples of the Andes managed to cut and transport the megalithic rocks that formed the Inca cities has been a mystery and a source of incredible stories. The Cachicata Cusco trek takes you to the source of one of the ancient Inca quarries; a place where you will find the answers to those questions. Join us on this fabulous hike to Cachicata Quarry Ollantaytambo.
Offering a fascinating look at the ingenuity of the Inca civilization, Inti Punku Cachicata is where the Incas shaped rocks for some of their ambitious building projects kilometers away, such as the fortress of Cachicata Quarry Ollantaytambo. This stimulating and picturesque hike lasts 3 to 4 hours, crossing the Urubamba River on an uphill trail that offers panoramic views of the Ollantaytambo valley, the Vilcanota mountain range, and Mount Veronica (18,745 feet) along the way. We will have lunch surrounded by magnificent views before returning to the Sacred Valley or Cusco.
Discover this amazing place high in the mountains of Ollantaytambo, just a few hours’ hike away. This incredible Sun Gate, also known as Inti Punku, was a checkpoint for people entering the Inca city. This structure is dedicated to the sun god, and during the winter solstice, it is considered an important site for ceremonies.

Cachicata Trek Inti Punku 1 Day
We’ll start the day by picking you up from your hotel for our approximately 1.5-hour journey to the city of Ollantaytambo, where we begin our Cachicata Trek Peru. The trail will take us up for about 4-5 hours roundtrip, depending on the walking pace. As we ascend, the panoramas of the Sacred Valley and massive mountains open up in an incredible bird’s-eye view. We’ll observe the paths where the stones were moved and the many blocks that were left unfinished.
We’ll also observe the “Chullpas,” or small tomb constructions that were built for the purpose of housing mummies, considered guardian spirits for the people who live and work in the area. Around noon, we’ll rest and enjoy our lunch. After taking in the views and snapping as many pictures as possible, we’ll begin the descent to Ollantaytambo. Our transportation will be waiting for us to take us back to the imperial city of Cusco, or to stay in Ollantaytambo if you prefer.
